Is Helping the Poor Worth the Cost

     Should the poor be helped? Write a short (five paragraph) essay taking asking whether or not the federal government has the responsibility to establish social and economic programs to improve the quality of life for its citizens who need help. The federal should support the people who need help. It is the government’s duty to provide assistance to the underprivileged and those with fewer resources. It is the federal government’s responsibility to establish social and economic programs to improve the quality of life for its citizens. Economic Effects of the New Deal

       Today, we discussed your chosen programs, as well as other crucial New Deal Programs.  From those programs, select the three programs that had the greatest impact on economic recovery.  For each program you choose support your selection with an extended paragraph outlining the economic effects and its impact on recovery.

The New Deal addressed the Great Depression by providing three categories of programs Relief : Immediate action taken to halt the economies deterioration Recovery : Temporary programs to restart the flow of consumer demand Reform : Permanent programs to avoid another depression and insure citizens against economic disasters. Introduction

As we have seen, the public’s opinion of President Hoover’s attempts to address the needs of the people during the Great Depression cost him the election of 1932. Instead, Franklin Delano Roosevelt won the election, mostly on the promise of a New Deal. In this unit, we will learn about the New Deal programs and how Roosevelt changed the role of government in people’s lives.       Throughout this week we will analyze the effectiveness of the New Deal programs, but we will also analyze its program’s unparalleled increase in governmental regulation of the economy, in order to answer the question “is helping the poor worth the cost?      But first, we will investigate the election of 1932 and the the methods each candidate planned to use in addressing the Great Depression.
